Dawwwww Twilight....your too old for this. :XD: Muffin is in this!

So yeah this was a challenging comic. :faint: No one drawing Cadence for the first time but just doing the swingset and BG. This was such a tricky comic overall to do. Granted it was a lot of fun but man this was no easy. Still has comedy!

Anyway...enjoy this comic. I got nothing more to add. Comments help. ;)

Time spent: 20 hours over 4 days
How I did it: Paper + Photoshop CS5

First is first...this comic did make me laugh and I did enjoy it.

Technique (3.5) :

I do like your use of color, and your style is very much like the show. the shading is very nice, and is is very good to the eye, for sure.

On the other hoof, three things stick out to me as sort of odd: First is the slightly awkward positioning of Twilight's seated position in panels 1-3. it almost appears as though her body is twisted in the seat, and her position on the ground in panel 4 does not make sense in relation to her position on the swing.

Second is the swing support, which obscures Cadance. Now, in the show, this was not so much as issue because of the motion which separated the animation from the scenery, but in a comic this is not possible and as such Cadance almost becomes part of the scenery, despite her bold colors and expressions. The third thing is panel three, which I will discuss later under 'impact'.

Originality (3) :

I'm not going to lie, I have seen this joke done before, and done a little bit better. Even so, it was done nicely, but the ending was a bit *too* expected. In fact...

Vision (3) :

...I actually expected a fifth panel, where they find some uproariously hilarious way to fix the swing, perhaps with magic or a knot, as referenced in the title. Or they turn the swing into a jump-rope. Or something similar. That would have shown a bit of vision to take a simple situation and make it even more special.

Impact (3.5) :

I tend to be hard when it comes to impact, and I judge it by what I think the artist's intentions are, and how well the artist succeeds in portraying the message they intend. In this case, the point was very clear, in being a semi-funny, semi-heartwarming moment. I do believe the artist made that point, but dud not "wow" me by building on that point. I almost feel like there could have been so much built on top of this comic. Yes, the artist met my expectations for a simple, heartwarming comic, but did not particularly exceed them. That being said, I did chuckle and say "Aw." and for that the author did what they intended in my opinion and that is something to be commended.

Conclusion:

I think this was a nice comic. For this comic to do it for me, though, there needs to be a solution, rather than just recognizing the situation. I commend your work, though, and I look forward to seeing more. :)
